Monitoring the Dell EMC S-Series OS10 Switch

eG Enterprise has developed a dedicated Dell EMC S-Series OS10 Switch monitoring model which periodically checks the CPU and memory statistics of each stack unit of the switch, the temperature of each stack unit of the switch, the memory utilization etc, detects abnormalities, if any and helps administrators rectify the same before any irreparable damage occurs.

Every layer of Figure 1 is mapped to a variety of tests on the target Dell EMC S-Series OS10 Switch to collect critical statistics pertaining to its performance. The metrics reported by these tests enable administrators to answer the following questions:

  • Was the CPU utilization abnormally high during the last second?
  • Was the CPU utilization abnormally high during the last minute?
  • Was the CPU utilization abnormally high during the last 5 minutes?
  • Is the status of any fan down or failed or dormant? If yes, which are those fans?
  • Is the status of any fan tray down or failed or dormant? If yes, which are those fan trays?
  • Is any stack unit utilizing abnormal memory resources?
  • Is the status of any power supply unit within each stack unit down or failed? If yes, which are those power supply units?
  • Is the chassis temperature within normal range?
  • Is the status of the chassis card ready? Are there any chassis cards that are offline or are encountering card mismatch?
