EMC ECS VDC Geo Replication Test
ECS includes protection against a complete site-wide failure. This is accomplished in a multi-site deployment by federating multiple VDCs/sites together and configuring geo-replication. Replication group policies determine how data is protected and where it can be accessed from. Geo-replication protects data from site failure.
The purpose of this test is to collect metrics around the geo-replication process so that administrators can draw insights and understand if the geo-replication process is working efficiently. If there is an aberration in data, administrators can investigate the issue and take corresponding actions before it can cause any damage.
Target of the test : A Dell EMC Elastic Cloud Storage System
Agent deploying the test : A remote agent
Outputs of the test : One set of results for each Virtual Data Centre (VDC)
Parameter | Description |
---|---|
Test period |
How often should the test be executed . |
Host |
The host for which the test is to be configured. Since the storage device is managed using the IP address of its storage controller, the same will be displayed as host. |
Port |
The port number at which the specified host listens. By default, this is NULL. |
ECS REST API Port |
This is the port at which REST API connectivity is provided. By default, port 4443 is used. |
Username and Password |
To collect performance metrics from the target storage device, the eG agent should be configured with the credentials of a user who is vested with "read-only" privileges to access REST API of the target storage device. Specify the credentials of such a user in the Username and Password text boxes. |
Confirm Password |
Confirm the password by retyping it here. |
Timeout Seconds |
Specify the time duration for which this test should wait for a response from the storage system in the Timeout text box. By default, this is 60 seconds. |
Measurement | Description | Measurement Unit | Interpretation |
---|---|---|---|
Replication reads |
Indicates the current rate of data reads from all remote VDCs or individual remote VDC in the replication group. |
IOPS |
Compare the IOPS rates over a range of measurements and if the rate is going down over time it may mean there is some problem which needs to be investigated.
|
Replication writes |
Indicates the current rate of data writes to all remote VDCs or individual remote VDC in the replication group. |
IOPS |
|
User data pending |
Indicates the total logical size of user data waiting for replication for the replication group or remote VDC. |
GB |
For data protection, any data written should be immediately replicated. Pending data for replication leads to risk of data loss if disk/node failure happened. You should keep an eye on this measure and ensure that data pending replication stays within limit.
|
System meta data pending |
Indicates the total logical size of system data waiting for replication for the replication group or remote VDC. |
