HPE StoreOnce VTL Test

HP StoreOnce Backup Systems can be configured as either a NAS or a VTL target appliance. VTL targets appear to the backup application as physically connected tape devices, with backup and recovery jobs managed in the same manner as with a physical tape device. These Virtual Tape Libraries enable administrators to more efficiently manage resources. Virtual Tape Libraries are recommended for customers in Fibre Channel environments, or where a continued investment in tape hardware and software is a key consideration. If the Virtual Tape Library suddenly becomes unavailable or stops abruptly, the data stored in that Virtual Tape Library may become inaccessible to the users. To ensure continuous availability of data, it is essential to monitor the status of each Virtual Tap Library in the target HPE StoreOnce Backup system. The HPE StoreOnce VTL test helps administrators in this regard!

This test auto-discovers the Virtual Tape Libraries on the target HPE StoreOnce Backup system and for each Virtual Tape library, this test reports the current status, health and replication health. Besides, this test also reports the amount of data that is stored before and after deduplication. Using this test, administrators can figure out the count of drives and Cartidges assigned to each Virtual Tape Library and the count of drives that are currently online. The detailed diagnostics reveals the replication role and deduplication ratio of each Virtual Tape Library.

Target of the test : HPE StoreOnce Backup system

Agent deploying the test : A remote agent

Outputs of the test : One set of results for each Virtual Tape Library available on the target HPE StoreOnce Backup system being monitored

Configurable parameters for the test
Parameters Description

Test Period

How often should the test be executed.

Host

The host for which the test is to be configured.

Port

The port at which the host is listening. By default, this is set to Null.

Username and Password

By default, the eG agent executes REST APIs on the target HPE StoreOnce Backup system to collect the required metrics. For the eG agent to execute the REST APIs, a special user with user role is required. Specify the credentials of such a user in the Username and Password text boxes.

Confirm Password

Confirm the password by retypying it here.

Timeout Seconds

Specify the duration (in seconds) beyond which the test will timeout in this text box. The default value is 120 seconds.

Service Set

A service set is a collection of services such as Virtual Tape Library(VTL), Network Attached Storage(NAS), Replication and StoreOnce Catalyst. There is one instance of each service per service set. By default, the target HPE StoreOnce Backup system is associated with a service set. Therefore, the Service Set parameter is set to 1 by default. If you are monitoring multiple HPE Storeonce Backup systems in your environment, then, specify the exact number associated with the service set that is assigned to each HPE StoreOnce Backup system that is to be monitored.

Detailed Diagnosis

To make diagnosis more efficient and accurate, the eG Enterprise embeds an optional detailed diagnostic capability. With this capability, the eG agents can be configured to run detailed, more elaborate tests as and when specific problems are detected. To enable the detailed diagnosis capability of this test for a particular server, choose the On option. To disable the capability, click on the Off option.

The option to selectively enable/disable the detailed diagnosis capability will be available only if the following conditions are fulfilled:

  • The eG manager license should allow the detailed diagnosis capability
  • Both the normal and abnormal frequencies configured for the detailed diagnosis measures should not be 0.
