Pre-requisites for Monitoring IBM pSeries Server

The following pre-requisites need to be fulfilled before attempting AIX LPAR monitoring:

• SSH will have to be enabled on the HMC server and on each of the LPARs on the target pSeries server;

• eG agent uses REST API to collect metrics related to resource allocation and usage levels of each of the LPARs hosted on it and the VIO server. To enable the eG agent to collect the metrics via REST API, the following tests should be configured with IP of the HMC server and the credentials of a user to the HMC console;

  • AIX LPAR VM Guests test

  • AIX LPAR VM Information Test

  • pSeries Processors test

  • VIO Storage Details test

  • VIO Volume Groups test

• All other tests should be configured with the IP of the HMC server and the credentials of a user to the HMC server who is assigned the hmcviewer role;
• In addition, the tests mapped the Inside View of VMs layer should be configured with the credentials of a valid user to each of the LPARs configured on the pSeries server.
• To enable the eG agent to obtain the 'inside view' of each AIX LPAR on a target IBM pSeries server, port 657 should be opened on every LPAR. Note that both TCP and UDP communication to that port should be enabled.
