Architecture of IGEL

Figure 1 shows the architecture of IGEL as it applies to an enterprise organization:

  • IGEL endpoint is a thin client and a small-sized desktop terminal without a hard drive. IGEL endpoint has its own IGEL OS which is built on a highly secure Linux kernel which can run on any compatible x86-64 device. The IGEL endpoints can be accessed by users from various environments such as home, office, cafe etc.

  • The IGEL Universal Management Suite (UMS) is a single management solution for up to tens of thousands of endpoints running IGEL OS. In most environments where IGEL UMS is deployed, the IGEL UMS will be deployed as a high-availability pair so that administrators can avoid disruption to services offered.

  • The IGEL  Cloud Gateway (ICG) feature extends the management and control reach of the IGEL Universal Management Suite (UMS) via a standard internet connection to endpoints running in remote branch offices, at home offices, or anywhere else like cafe, restaurants etc.
