Adding Nutanix Prism Central

eG Enterprise cannot automatically discover a Nutanix Prism Central. This means that you have to manually add a Prism Central using the eG admin interface. The steps to achieve this are as follows:

  1. Login to the eG admin interface.

  2. Click on the Add Component button in the right corner of the Components at a Glance page that appeared or follow the Infrastructure -> Components -> Add/Modify menu sequence. Figure 1 will then appear.

  3. If the Prism Element that you want to monitor is a Prism Central, then, against Host IP/Name, specify the IP address using which the Prism Element was installed and configured.

On the other hand, if the Prism Element that you want to monitor is a Prism Element, then, against Host IP/Name, specify the cluster IP address that is configured for communicating with the cluster that is managed by that Prism Element.

  4. Provide a Nick name for the Prism Element and enter the Port number at which the Prism Central listens. By default, the port will be 9440.

  5. By default, eG Enterprise monitors the Prism Central in an Agentless manner only.

  6. Set the OS as Nutanix and the Mode as Other.

  7. Pick a Remote Agent and an External Agent for the Nutanix Prism Central, and click on Add button to add the Prism Central for monitoring.

  8. Once the Nutanix Prism Central component is added successfully, you will be again redirected to the Components page (see Figure 2). Using the options provided in the Components page, you can modify, unmanage or delete the newly added component. In addition, you can also configure the tests, set thresholds and maintenance policies, and change the IP address.

  9. To collect the performance metrics, you may need to manually configure the tests that are mapped to the Nutanix Prism Central component. To configure the tests that need manual configuration, click on the icon in Figure 2. This will lead you to the Specific Test Configuration page where the unconfigured tests for the Nutanix Prism Central component will be listed in the Unconfigured Tests list box.

  10. Click on any test in Figure 3 to configure it. For the purpose of this example, let us choose the Nutanix Cluster test for configuration. Figure 4 will then appear.

  11. To know how to configure this test, refer to Monitoring Nutanix Prism Central

  12. Once the test is configured, click the Update button to save the changes. Configuring a single test automatically configures all other tests mapped to the managed Nutanix Prism Central. Therefore, proceed to sign out of the eG admin interface.

  13. Once the configured tests run, they pull a variety of metrics from the Nutanix Prism Element and report the same to the eG manager. The eG manager then presents the metrics received in real-time in the eG monitoring console using a specialized monitoring model for the Nutanix Prism Central. Refer to Monitoring Nutanix Prism Central for more details about this model.

  14. Once all the tests are configured, switch to the Monitor tab to view the performance metrics reported by the tests.
