Managing Progress OpenEdge Server

The eG Enterprise cannot automatically discover the Progress OpenEdge Application Server. This implies that you need to manually add the Progress OpenEdge Application Server for monitoring. Follow the steps below to achieve the same:

  1. Log into the eG administrative interface.

  2. Follow the Components -> Add/Modify menu sequence in the Infrastructure tile of the Admin menu.

  3. In the COMPONENT page that appears, select Progress OpenEdge Server as the Component type. Then, click the Add New Component button.

  4. Specify the Host IP/Name, Nick name, and the Port number of the Progress OpenEdge Application Server (see Figure 1).

  5. In case you are monitoring a Progress OpenEdge Application server in an agent-based manner, just pick an external agent from the External agents list box and click the Add button to add the component for monitoring.

  6. On the other hand, if you are monitoring a Progress OpenEdge Application server in an agentless manner, then do the following:

    • Select the Agentless check box.

    • Pick the OS on which the Progress OpenEdge Application server is running.

    • Set the Mode to Perfmon.

    • Select the Remote agent that will be monitoring the Progress OpenEdge Application server. Note that the Remote agent you choose should run on a Windows or Linux host.

    • Choose an external agent for the server by picking an option from the External agents list box.

    • Finally, click the Add button to add the Progress OpenEdge Application server for monitoring.

  7. Once the Progress OpenEdge Application Server is added successfully, you will be again redirected to the Components page (see Figure 3). Using the options provided in the Components page, you can modify, unmanage or delete the newly added component. In addition, you can also configure the tests, set thresholds and maintenance policies, and change the IP address.

  8. To collect the performance metrics, you may need to manually configure the tests that are mapped to the Progress OpenEdge component. To configure the tests that need manual configuration, click on the icon in the Components page. This will lead you to the Specific Test Configuration page (see Figure 4) where the unconfigured tests for the Progress OpenEdge component will be listed in the Unconfigured Tests list box.
